The villa is a fine example of imposing neoclassical architecture. Begun at the end of the 18th century and completed in 1812 by the Odescalchi Marquises, it passed to the Raimondi family, then to the Visconti di Modrone family and in 1925 to the Municipality which used it as a venue for cultural events and art exhibitions.

Villa Olmo is certainly the most impressive of the villas on Lake Como. It consists of a vast complex which, in addition to a large park, includes several buildings. These include the central body of the villa, currently used as an exhibition venue, the northern side wing, the southern and northern casinos, the greenhouses, the Tennis Como complex which occupies the southern side wing of the villa, the international hostel and the beach.

From the Volta Temple towards the villa it is possible to admire the splendor of the panorama which acts as the backdrop for a romantic walk. Possibility of bathing at the villa's beach
